There are many small things you
can do that will make a big difference in keeping your skin clear!
Consistency
is key - When you are starting a new skin care regime stay consistent with
your routine. Use the same products in the same order every day. Give yourself
4-6 weeks to see significant results. Some breakouts have been forming under the
skin for weeks and may erupt with or without treatment. But if you switch products
with each new flare up it becomes impossible to gauge your true results.
Do
not overwash your face - Washing or scrubbing your face too often with harsh
or grainy cleansers will aggravate skin and cause more breakouts. For normal skin,
apply Dermaclear twice a day in place of a cleanser. For oily skin prone to heavy
breakouts try using a benzoyl peroxide-based cleanser like Johnson & Johnson's
Continuous Control Acne Cleanser. If you have dry, sensitive skin, try Cetaphil
Gentle Skin Cleanser. If using a separate cleanser with Dermaclear use lukewarm
water (not hot) when washing.
Moisturize
- Don't be afraid to moisturize just because you have acne. If you have oily or
normal skin a moisturizer is not necessary. But if you have dry skin, try an oil-free
moisturizer. Just make sure the label reads either non-comedogenic or non-acneogenic.
Apply the moisturizer after applying Dermaclear.
Keep
it Clean - Keep your hands clean and off your face. Sometimes we don't realize
how often we touch our face during the day. Regularly clean phone handsets, cell
phones, earphones or anything that comes in contact with your face. Wash pillowcases
and towels in mild, dye-free detergents. Keep heavy hair conditioners and styling
products away from the hairline. After hair styling, swipe Dermaclear at the hairline
for extra protection from pimples.
Check
your Makeup - It is difficult not to wear makeup when you suffer from breakouts.
Just try to take time off from wearing makeup on weekends or days when aren't
in public. The wrong makeup can reverse the benefits of the most effective skin
care regime. Always look for foundations and concealers labeled non-comedogenic
and non-acneogenic. You may want to test a new makeup on one part of the face
for a week to make sure it does not cause any pimples or whiteheads.
Live
Healthy - Mom was right. Eat your fruits and vegetables, drink water and limit
alcohol and caffeine. While there is no proven link between acne and eating the
wrong kind of foods, eating well can keep your skin healthy.
Recognize
Stress and Prepare - Recognize the things, people and events that cause you
stress and pretreat your skin. If you have a tough week ahead you may want add
an extra application of Dermaclear to the areas you tend to experience the most
breakouts. For very oily skin you may want to add a benzoyl peroxide cleanser.
